Making websites is one thing, selling things online is another! Part of my web content manager responsibility has been producing web-based marketing material for Fleetway Travel: mailshots to sell holidays and banner ads to promote the company on lastminute.com: usually their marketing team produce the banners and I was given the chance to do them myself and lastminute.com were happy with the results.
These are screens designed for Teletext - they needed to be visually attention-grabbing, as well as quick and easy for the viewer to digest quickly what's on offer. The design had to be simple because a TV screen distorts, especially around the outer edges.
Do you remember banner ads? Garish, distracting and really quite annoying - back in the day they had to be gifs so they most they could do was flash, and they also had filesize limits. The challenge was to come up with something tasteful (or not), on brand and within the filsesize limitations.
Beware of flashing images.
